Tellus Soil Sampling

Tellus Soil Sampling

Currently, the soil sampling teams have moved to South East Ireland (G10 Block), working in counties Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and parts of Kerry, Cork, Galway, Offaly and Waterford. Soil samples obtained will be about 1 kg in weight and will be taken to a maximum depth of 50 cm. All samples will be analysed for a range of geochemical elements and the information will be made freely available.

By analysing the samples, the Geological Survey of Ireland can improve it's geological maps and assess the health of the environment, soil nutrients and trace elements. The results will help identify regional variations in soil properties that can impact soil fertility and grass yields. This information is particularly beneficial in an agricultural context.
