Geoscience for Leaving Certificate Geography

This CPD (Continuing Professional Development) course was developed jointly by Geological Survey Ireland and iCRAG. It ran as a pilot in 2021. It was very successful, with six geoscience resources produced in collaboration between Leaving Certificate Geography teachers around Ireland and geoscience practitioners. The teachers brought in their expertise and experience with teaching and how the various aspects of geoscience can be linked to the curriculum, and the geoscience practitioners contributed their knowledge and relevant applications of geoscience at a classroom level.

The subjects covered by these resources include a Glendalough field study, geothermal energy, an introduction to geology, Irish geohazards, seismic activity, and volcanoes.

They are free to use and have been designed so that teachers can use the material themselves in the classroom. Please contact Siobhán Power, Siobhan.Power[at]gsi.ie, for any further information relating to these. They are available as a whole booklet, or as individual resources.
