Tsunami Inundation Mapping of the Irish Coastline

Published:

Professor Frédéric Dias (University College Dublin) was contracted to carry out a pilot study investigating tsunami inundation along the Irish Coastline. The technical part of the study has been prepared by Dr Daniel Giles, who is a member of his research team. Tsunami inundation is defined as the horizontal extent of a tsunami's flow inland. From an Irish perspective the greatest tsunami risks originate from a 'Lisbon type' earthquake or a mid-Atlantic submarine landslide. This study focuses on the historical Lisbon 1755 event as a candidate tsunami source.
