Activities

Activities

We manage and publish our extensive catalogue of data.  We also provide web services with a wide range of spatial information for public use.  Many of our publications are published in-house in our Cartography Unit.  Goldmine is a our online digital catalogue of archive maps and data. Science is at the core of many Government policies, and communicating our science is important to us. None of this is possible without our underlying computer network, which we manage in association with staff in the Department of Communication, Climate Action & Environment and the Department of Agriculture.

Data Management

We manage and publish our extensive catalogue of data related to bedrock, geochemistry, geoenergy, geohazards, geological heritage, geophysics, geotechnical, groundwater, marine, minerals and quaternary.

Online Viewers

Most of our data is displayed in our online viewers to help our stakeholders in their decision process, either during environmental impact assessment, for planning purposes and also for general information.

Running the computer network

We work closely with staff in the Information Systems Division (ISD) in our Department  and staff in the Department of Agriculture.

  • Staff in ISD are responsible for hardware infrastructure development, ongoing expansion of our Information Technology (IT) network and systems, software maintenance and support, IT training  and Internet connectivity.
  • Staff in Department of Agriculture are responsible for network and hardware maintenance and support.

GOLDMINE

Our archive documents and maps, previously only available in our Customer Centre, are now available online on GOLMINE.  The application has over 450,000 pages in original high resolution and smaller PDF format files.

Archives

Geological Survey Ireland is a recognised repository of the National Archives and has a statutory responsibility for the records of the organisation as a part of government.
