The Earth Observation for the mining of Raw materials (EO4RM) project is nearing completion. Dutch research institute Deltares is the project coordinator.
Geoscience Ireland (GI) member Lisheen Mining & Technical Services participated in the project alongside the European Space Agency. GI and Geological Survey Ireland served on the Project Steering Committee.
The EO project results, are available on: EO4RawMaterials portal. The final report will be launched at EOCafé on February 11th at 4PM CET.
Welcoming the results of the project, GI's Sean Finlay commented
"Satellite remote sensing has a crucial role to play in the minerals cycle, from exploration, discovery, mining , to closure and rehabilitation. Ensuring sustainable supplies of critical raw materials is central European Union policy and earth observation technology is an integral part of that policy."
