IGI and IAH Irish Group jointly present:

"Copper mining in the southwestern United States – understanding and managing environmental impacts" by Doug Bartlett, Principal Hydrogeologist and co-founder of Clear Creek Associates in Phoenix, Arizona.

"Complexities of Mined Land Remediation in the United States: A Case Study of the Tri-States (Kansas-Missouri-Oklahoma, USA) Mining District" by Dr. Aaron Johnston Executive Director of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG).

Biographies of the presenters:

R. Douglas Bartlett is a Principal Hydrogeologist and co-founder of Clear Creek Associates in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Bartlett has 41 years of experience in geologic and hydrogeological consulting. His diverse experience includes groundwater computer modelling, hydrogeological investigations, mining-related hydrogeological services, water supply studies, and permitting support for environmental and groundwater recharge and recovery. Mr. Bartlett also provides expert witness testimony in support of legal issues involving hydrogeology and groundwater modelling. He has developed extensive groundwater computer models to evaluate groundwater resources, assess the future impact of groundwater pumping, design groundwater recharge projects, trace the migration of contaminant plumes, and develop remedies to clean up contaminated groundwater. He is the current National President of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

Aaron W. Johnson is the Executive Director of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). He focuses on all aspects of professional geoscience, from environmental remediation to exploration for mineral resources. His primary areas of research interest are to understand the sources, pathways, and processes responsible for emplacement of ore minerals in carbonate-hosted base metal deposits. In addition to his work for AIPG, he serves as an expert for the United Nations Framework Classification System Working Group on Minerals, and as Chair of the Professional Development Working Group for the Task Group on Global Geoscience Professionalism which is under the direction of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). He is also a member of the Federal Advisory Committee for the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, administered by the United States Geological Survey. In 2016 and 2017, he served as an expert advisor for the working group that founded the International Raw Materials Observatory and he has served as Associate Editor for both The Journal of Geoscience Education and The Compass.

Tea/coffee 17:30 – 18:00, Lecture and discussion 18:00 – 19:30.
