Adrienne Foreman, PhD Candidate at NUI Galway, will present a talk on 'Abrupt Climate Change in the Glaciomorphologic Record of Connemara'.
Using geomorphology and cosmogenic nuclide surface exposure dating, Adrienne's research has indicated a record of rapid deglaciation in Connemara during periods of time that have previously been considered deeply cold throughout the North Atlantic Region.
Periods of abrupt return to glacial conditions appear in the marine and Greenland geologic records, but not necessarily in terrestrial Europe, leaving big questions about how the climate system responds to rapid climatic warming in the North Atlantic – a question highly pertinent to our own changing climate.
