The first biannual meeting in 2025 of the Urban Geology Expert Group (UGEG) took place in Madrid, Spain from Monday 19 th to Wednesday 21st of May. The meeting was organized by CN Instituto Geologico y Minero de España.
The meeting was attended by two members of the Urban Geology programme from Geological Survey Ireland.
Sophie O'Connor presented “Urban Geology: GSI steps to showcase its relevance". She highlighted the relevance of the work Geological Survey Ireland does in the urban environment.
The meeting evaluated progress of the following tasks and activities the expert group is working on:
- Geo CIM
- Urban Catchments (UGF). Update of the new version.
- Geo communication. Updates on the state of the factsheets and the data transfer from the Suburban webpage.
- Urban Geology and EGDI. An update of the EGDI editorial meeting that took place in Brussels in March. The expert group must decide what datasets from the EGDI platform are relevant for the expert group.
