2025 Du Noyer Photographic Competition Winners

​​​​​​​The winners of the 2025 Du Noyer Irish Geological Association/Geological Survey Ireland Photographic Competition were announced in Tom Johnson House, Beggars Bush on Thursday, 29 January 2026.

Irish Section:

1st – Pawel Zygmunt, 'The Rock', Dunmore Head, Dingle, Co. Kerry.

2nd – Michael Gavin, Benwiskin, County Sligo.

3rd – Jutta Kruse, 'Ripples through time', Seafield beach, Co Clare.

Overseas section:

International ​Winner – Pawel Zygmunt, 'The Earth's Eye', Hveravellir, Iceland.​


1st Place. Pawel Zygmunt, An Dún Mor, Daingean Úi Chúis, Contae Chiarraí. This coastal section of the Dingle Group rocks at Dunmore Head comprises sediments that were deposited in a braided river system environment of the Dingle Basin during the Lower Devonian.​


2nd Place. Michael Gavin, Benwiskin, County Sligo. Beniwiskin's geology consists of Lower Carboniferous limestones and shales. These rocks were sculpted by ice sheets during the Quaternary.​​


 3rd Place. Jutta Kruse, 'Ripples through time', Seafield beach, Co Clare. Well preserved wave ripples in sandstones, siltstones, and mudstones of the Upper Carboniferous (Namurian) Central Clare Group.

International Winner. Pawel Zygmunt, ‘The Earth's Eye’, Hveravellir, Iceland. This aerial photograph captures the striking patterns of the Hveravellir geothermal area in the central Icelandic Highlands. At the image's center lies a mineral-rich hot spring vent, ringed by concentric terraces of siliceous sinter and carbonate deposits.​
