The next NUI SEG evening lecture will be presented by Dr Deirdre Lewis (Technical Director Geology at SLR Consulting Ireland) on the following : 'Journeys in Strange Lands – Reflections of a Professional Geologist'.

Dr. Deirdre Lewis, PGeo EurGeol, will talk about her career as a professional geologist, working at home and internationally for more than 25 years, in industry and consultancy. This has enabled her to work in some of the world's most interesting geological terranes, travelling to strange places and meeting people one might never get the opportunity to do otherwise. The requirements of the job have changed considerably over the decades and the professional geoscientist needs to have 'new strings in their bow' to meet the challenges of today. Deirdre will reflect on some social, environmental and ethical challenges, and how young geoscientists might contribute to the responsible management of natural resources in the future.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided in the foyer of the school from 5.30 pm.

All welcome.
