A brief history of metal mining in the vale of Avoca, county Wicklow in the "Garden of Ireland". The mineral wealth of the valley has been known for centuries and prominant people have been involved in its exploration including the 19th centuary nationalist leader Charles Stewart Parnell and has been praised by the poet Thomas Moore (1779-1852).
