Donegal Aggregate Potential Mapping
Donegal Aggregate Potential Mapping ProjectThe GSI, in co-operation with Donegal County Council, have completed an Aggregate Potential Mapping (APM) project. The end result is a better understanding for the local authority of current and potential aggregate sources in the county, a vital tool for development planning. This project involved extensive liaison with the local authority and quarry operators and field work on the quaternary deposits. The end product is a database and associated map layers which can be integrated with the local authority GIS. The project was completed in early 2002. A season of field work was completed with mapping, sampling and testing of a number of existing quarries and potential quarry source rocks. All field data was captured using a GPS with data entry into an Arc-View GIS incorporating the Ordnance Survey georeferenced Orthophotographs and GSI Geological Maps.
