Databases

The Minerals Programme maintains a number of databanks and databases as an integral part of the role of the GSI as Ireland's national Earth Science Agency.

These resources have been compiled, in some cases, since the Survey began operation in Ireland in 1845, and vary from paper reports to maps, exploration company reports, mine records and digital information in a GIS format.

These databases, along with the many others housed within the GSI, form the basis for the work of the agency, in anwering public queries, producing reports, maps and directories and engaging in specialist project work. At present a major programme is being undertaken to migrate the information to a common digital format as part of an initiative called the Earth Resource Information Warehouse (ERIW), funded by the Information Society of the Department of the Taoiseach. Ultimately this project, and other linked initiatives, will also make all GSI data available over a web interface.

Further details on any of the Minerals related databases can be obtained by clicking on their link from the list below.
