GSI win prestigious eGovernment Award
The GSI and its project partners have recently won a prestigious eGovernment Award for the best Cross Agency project for The Irish Spatial Data Exchange (ISDE).
The ISDE provides web based searches of partners map related data catalogues. The ISDE partnership currently consists of GSI (and our parent department Communications, Energy and Natural Resources), Marine Institute, Environmental Protection Agency, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Coastal Marine Research Centre in UCC. The principle is that each organisation looks after their data catalogues and data access sites, but these are all linked and “searchable” from one web location. The origin of the project was in collaboration between MI and GSI as a way of easing public access to data and avoiding confusion over how to find public data. Importantly, as the project evolves, it will help ensure compliance with the new EU INSPIRE directive relating to public access to government held spatial environmental data.
