Introduction
Welcome to Issue No. 8 of Geology Matters, the newsletter of the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI). We published a special newsletter last July to review events held to mark International Year of Planet Earth.

In this issue we pay particular attention to the geoscience agenda and international partnership, two vitally important elements of both the GSI’s history and future. Both help GSI, as well as the wider geoscience sector, to handsomely contribute to the Government’s Science & Technology agenda. We also highlight some interesting items of news, including an update on the Griffith Geoscience Awards, details of two new GSI websites (our shop and our INFOMAR website), information about our new Burren map and many other project updates and items of interest.
