Minister Sherlock visits GSI Headquarters
Sean Sherlock TD is Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with Special Responsibility for ODA, Trade Promotion and North South cooperation. During his visit to GSI headquarters, Minister Sherlock was given an introduction to Geoscience Ireland (GI) with a particular focus on Africa and the Gulf, sharing knowledge of projects completed by GI Members and DFA activities in the regions.

During Mining Indaba to be held next week in Cape Town, RSA, Koen Verbruggen (President of the European Geological Surveys (EuroGeoSurveys)) will be launching a feasibility study: “Geoscientific Knowledge and Skills in African Geological Surveys (PanAfGeo)”. PanAfGeo, completed in collaboration with The Organisation of African Geological Surveys (OAGS), investigates how to increase African-owned geological knowledge and skills for sustainable mineral exploitation and related infrastructures, and natural disasters prevention and mitigation. Minister Sherlock is supportive of the joint PanAfGeo project and is looking forward to hearing the outcome of the meeting next week.Enterprise Ireland’s South African office is supporting a Market Study Visit to Indaba, in which GI will take part.
