Mad stone under Cork

The paper will give a general over view of the geology of Cork City and the local hinterland and will highlight both the benefits and the challenges that the variety of the geology poses to developing the urban environment. The contribution of geoscience in assessing and quantifying the risk of ‘traditional’ issues as slope stability, the presence of karst limestone and ground subsidence will be looked at for sites in Cork as well as ‘new’ issues such as the management of ground contamination and geothermal development.

Registration will be open in mid February.
