European Water Policy has undergone a restructuring process, and a new Water Framework Directive (WFD) adopted in 2000 is the operational tool, setting the objectives for water protection for the future:

The WFD is a new tool for protecting water quality and by 2015 all waters are expected to meet good quality standards. This is a challenge for all stakeholders including agriculture. It is now a good time to look forward and be aware of and prepared for the challenges that may lie ahead.

The Conference will attempt to provide a roadmap for grassland agriculture that is both economically and environmentally sustainable.

Venue: Teagasc, Johnstown Castle Research Centre, Wexford
