"Limestones and Karst of Cuilcagh Mountain, Fermanagh and Cavan" - IGA Fieldtrip to Fermanagh with John Kelly (CSA)
18th and 19th October 2008
Fieldtrip organised by the Irish Geological Association and led by John Kelly (CSA).
On Saturday morning we will leave Florencecourt at 09.00 for East Cuilcagh then heading to the Gortalughany Quarries (Lower and Upper), Legacurragh Gap and Cloghany, Pigeon Pots to take a look at shallow water limestones, coral biostromes, sinkholes and dry valleys. In the afternoon we hope to head to the Cladagh Glen and Marble Arch Caves and take a look at the fossiliferous shales, limestones, mudbank limestones, springs, caves, caves and more caves.
On Sunday morning we will leave Florencecourt at 10.00 for Gortmaconnell to visit Gortmaconnell Rock, Glass Rock Hollow, Pollasumera, Cuilcagh Dyke, the Meenymore Formation, mudbank limestones, sandstones, faults, dolerite dykes, coral marble, sabkha shales and evaporites, ripple bedded sandstones, sinkholes, collapse dolines, dolomitisation, Time allowing, in the afternoon, we might head to the West Cuilcagh Mudbanks before heading home.
