Earth Observation through satellite, airborne and ground-based imaging is increasingly being exploited in academic and commercial sectors in Ireland due to a growing awareness of the potential offered by these technologies in seeking solutions to contemporary problems. This Symposium provides an opportunity for those working in the Irish Earth Observation sector to meet and present their work in either oral or poster format.

The theme of the Symposium is Opportunities for Earth Observation in Ireland, and all researchers are invited to submit abstracts of up to 250 words on this theme by Friday October 3rd.

Abstracts can be submitted and the registration form downloaded from:

Postgraduate students are particularly encouraged to attend, and there will be prizes for the best oral and poster presentations from postgraduate students (sponsored by Space SkillNet).

The Symposium will commence after lunch on Thursday 6th November, with a wine reception during the poster session that evening (sponsored by Compass Informatics) followed by the conference dinner. The Symposium will continue through the morning of Friday 7th November, after which it is hoped that Compass Informatics (ERDAS suppliers in Ireland) will organise a workshop to demonstrate the latest ERDAS software products used for image analysis (LiDAR data processing, feature extraction and enterprise data sharing are just some of the topics that will be covered). There will also be a keynote address from a leading researcher in Earth Observation from the UK (sponsored by OSI). Numbers will be limited for the ERDAS workshop so please ensure you register early.

Further details of the Symposium can be found on the website:

The Symposium is organised by University College Cork and hosted by the National Maritime College of Ireland.
