"The Marine Geology of Ireland: A Voyage to the Bottom of the Irish Seas" by Maria Judge (Geological Survey Ireland)
15th February 2017
This is an Irish Geological Association Lecture.
"Exploring Ireland's hidden offshore geology and marine world is not only tremendously exciting, it also adds to our indigenous natural resources. The Geological Survey of Ireland's INFOMAR (the INtegrated Mapping FOr the Sustainable Development of Ireland's MArine Resource) programme is at the forefront of this exploration. This lecture will show the different ways by which Ireland's undersea/offshore geology has been revealed, what has been discovered, and the scientific and economic potential that is out there. Ireland now has one of the best national marine surveying programmes in the world and this lecture will tell how this has come about. Seabed samples will be on display."
When and where: The lecture theatre in the Geological Survey Ireland, Beggars Bush, Dublin 4 on Wednesday, February 15th, between 6:30 and 7:30 pm. Coffee and biscuits will available from 5:30 pm. All welcome.
