The earth pyramids, locally called "ciciu", can be found in the protected area of " ciciu del Vilar" in the Piemonte region. The erosion columns derive from the selective erosion of the soft glacial or fluvio-glacial terrains covered by boulders. This kind of landscape feature can be found, with different shapes and dimensions, in many parts of northern Italy.

The village of Fabbriche di Careggine (near Castelnuovo in Garfagnana, LU) was submerged when a large artificial lake was formed between 1941 and 1953. Every ten years, when the basin is emptied for periodical maintenance, it reappears with the relics of the church and of the few houses clustered around it.

A small volcanic cone appeared on the south eastern slope of Mount Etna, during year 2000 eruption. These small cones (200 - 300 m high) are very frequent and often appear at very low heights on the volcano slope.

A panoramic view of the top of the Etna Volcano during year 2000 eruption. It is possible to see the earth wall built by Civil Protection to try to divert the lava flow and protect some houses. Active, dormant and extinct volcanoes are very common in Italy, so this kind of Landscape is widely found all over the country.

A panoramic view of the Orco valley, situated in the Piemonte region. The valley, as well as many other alpine ones, shows a fluvio-glacial morphology and generate a characteristic landscape easily found on the whole Alpine chain.
